Bob Charlie made his only appearance in the SNES version of Super Punch-Out!! as the first boxer in the Major Circuit. His look and name are references to the reggae artist Bob Marley. Before leaving Jamaica, Bob Charlie was crowned Jive King of Kingston.

Super Punch-Out!! (1994)

In the SNES version of Super Punch-Out!!, Bob Charlie's signature move has him step back, dance from one corner to another while shouting "Whoo!" a few times, then do a windmill-like uppercut toward his opponent. He also dances when up close to his opponent. His palette swap is Gabby Jay. He wears purple boxing gloves and boots with red shorts and purple and white headband.

Moves

• Hook: Bob Charlie does a hook. It cannot be low blocked.
• Body Blow: Bob attacks the body: Cannot be ducked or high blocked.
• Uppercut. Bob crouches and does an uppercut. Cannot be blocked.
• Spinning Uppercut: Bob Charlie moves to one side of the ring, and will sometimes dance to the other side and say "Whoo!" while dancing. This will result in one of two outcomes:
  1. He will spin toward the player with an uppercut at the end.
  2. He jumps to the center without punching afterward.
• Double Body Blow: Bob Charlie ducks a few times, then throws two body blows. It is best to block low.
• "Bob, time to shuck and jive!": When the cornerman says this, Bob Charlie will enter a state in which he will sometimes wind up for a punch, but not attempt to. He will do this after the first knockdown.

Instant KO Trick

• Counter his Spinning Uppercut. It still works if he does not punch.

Dizzy Knockdown: Bob will go to the back of the ring, stabilize himself, then walk to the center. Punch him as he is walking back.

Bob Charlie will still randomly jump to the sides.

Rule Infractions

As per the unified rules of boxing established by the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combat Sports:

• Bob's hair stretches off his face, making it too long to be allowed due to the possibility of it interfering with his vision or being pulled out.
• During Bob Charlie's special spin attack, he temporarily shows his back. This counts as giving up (throwing the match) or prolonging the match (as boxers cannot hit the opponent's back), which is illegal.
  • In addition, Bob will go to one side of the ring and he'll dance to the other side while going "Ooh! Ooh!" This counts as taunting which is classed as disrespectful in boxing although it's up to the referee to decide.

While his headband would count as headgear which is normally illegal, the Major Circuit is equivalent to medium circuit professional boxing which makes his headband legal.

Bob Charlie has 2.5 infractions.

• When Bob Charlie falls down for the 10 count, the referee notably keeps counting even as he stands up and seems to be fine, and he falls back down as the ref counts to ten.
• Bob Charlie has some similarities with Title Defense Von Kaiser, including his fake punches and his spinning attack.
• If Bob Charlie TKOs you, he says "Yay!" This sound is reused from Gabby Jay.
• The perfect time against Bob Charlie is 0'05"50 in the NTSC version, first achieved by David Heidman Jr., and 0'05"46 in the PAL version, first achieved by MeLeeak.
• He's the only one of two characters to wear approved head wear, as he only wears it in the Major Circuit. The other character with approved head wear is Glass Joe who wears a boxing helmet, though that is because it's doctor's orders.
• Bob Charlie was originally scheduled to be in Punch-Out Wii in the Major Circuit but due to copyright infringement, he was scrapped.
